Manu Tukutuku
Manu Tukutuku
Every year the māori people have a celebration every late May or early June Matariki is a māori new year to celebrate the seven sisters or some people like to call the seven stars.
On Monday our class was on the process of starting our kites. Before we got the toetoe we talked about on the mat how we need to say a karakia to show respect to the plants and we also talked about the tikanga, the tikanga is about why we do what we do. We went out of school to get some toetoe. Before we cut the toetoe the class had to say a karakia. Karakia in english is a (Pray)
when we got back to the classroom we started to measure the length of the toetoe when we measured it we fidget out it was 99.3 cm long we have to split it into three equal part to make manu Tukutuku. The next step me and Izzy went on was the base of the manu Tukutuku. We had to draw a line where we measured to see where to cut the toetoe, when Miss Hills cut the toetoe she cut it into three different parts one part is small, another one is medium
